Accessing Office 365 Applications
Our organization uses Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 to provide access to Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
Important:
Email and Microsoft Teams are not part of this deployment and will continue to be provided through Google Workspace via Gmail (Nmail) and Google Chat/Meet applications
What Office 365 Is Used For
Office 365 provides users with access to Microsoft Office applications for productivity and collaboration. The available applications are listed below:

- Excel
- PowerPoint
- OneDrive
How to Access Office 365 Apps
You can access Office 365 applications from any supported web browser using the Microsoft 365 portal.

Once signed in, you will see icons for available applications such as Word, Excel, and OneDrive.
Signing In
When accessing Office 365, you will sign in using your NETID Username and Password
Go to https://neiu.edu/office365
Enter your NEIU NetID and password. If this is your first time logging in to the Office 365 platform, you will be prompted to register for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Please complete these enrollment steps when prompted. Below is a link to a guide to complete this enrollment.
Password Resets
Password resets for Office 365 are not managed through Microsoft.
If you forget your password or need it reset, you can reset it through the existing NEIUPORT process.

Using Google Email and Collaboration Tools
Your existing Google services remain unchanged. Gmail remains the primary email service, and Google Chat and Meet continue to be used for messaging and meetings. These are included as part of an ongoing roadmap to be replaced with Microsoft Applications. Microsoft 365 is provided only for Office applications and file access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Outlook instead of Gmail?
No. Email services will remain on Google, and Outlook is not enabled.
Can I use Microsoft Teams?
No. Teams is not enabled in this deployment.
Can I install Office apps on my computer?
Faculty/Staff
IT staff will automatically install Office Apps on university-issued computers. These will be installed as part of a phased approach, and your team will be notified prior to installation.
Student/Personally Owned PC or MAC
Office apps are available to be installed by you on your personally owned PC or MAC devices. Please follow the installation instructions at the URL below to complete this installation:
Install Office 365 Apps
- Go to the Microsoft Office website at https://neiu.edu/office365
- Click the Sign In button in the top-right corner. Log in using your NEIU NetID and password.

- Select Apps > select Install apps > select Office 365 apps.

- Next select Install Office to start the download process.

- Once the download is complete, open your browser’s Downloads folder and run the installer.

- Once installation is complete, all Microsoft 365 apps will be ready to use. You can easily find and open any app—such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and more—by searching for it on your computer.
