Different types of Laptop and mobile device adapters

These are the common port you will find on your laptop or mobile device.

Here at Northeastern our rooms are equipment with Male VGA cables. This is the common connection you will find in all our rooms. Some older laptop will have a port that has the female end as you see in the Common Display interfaces picture on your laptop. This connction only transmits video to the projector. New laptops and devices have different types of ports now a days. As seen below. The ports below could be the one on your laptop if it is a newer laptop or device.

If you have a laptop that has a VGA port as shown on the diagram on the side then plug the VGA cable into this port. The VGA port on your computer is usually a female VGA port. The Cables in our rooms are Male VGA cables. With a Mini Audio cable.

Some of our rooms have Male HDMI Cables. If your laptop has a standard style HDMI port you can use this to display your device to the projector by plugging this into your device. The port will look like the picture on top listed as Common Display Interface HDMI.

If you Laptop or device does not have a VGA this is the next option to use to display your image to the projector. Plug in the HDMI cable into your laptops or devices HDMI Port. Any other port will require an adapter to get it to display to the projector.  You will have to purchase your own adapter to get your device to display onto NEIU class room projectors.

If your laptop or device has no VGA port and there is no HDMI (type A) Cable in the room you will have to buy an adapter. You will have to get an HDMI to VGA adapter.

Mini HDMI (type C ) are usually located on phones and tablets these device are not always designed to work with projectors but some time will work.

Mini HDMI (type D ) are usually located on phones and tablets these device are not always designed to work with projectors but some time will work.

This port is sometimes used on laptops to use this port you will have to get a Display port Male to VGA Female adapter

USB-C This cable is used widely for Mac or Apple and newer PC and phones  but can be found on other devices as well is also compatible to Thunderbolt 3. If your device has this you will have to purchase your own adapter.

Mini Display port is used on Apple and PCs this port transmits video. If your device has this you will have to purchase your own adapter.

Thunderbolt 1 & 2/display port. This port has the same shape connector but will work with other thunderbolt devices where as a display port will not work with thunderbolt devices. Both will display images from laptop to projector but only Thunderbolt

If your device has this you will have to purchase your own adapter.

Apples Lightning connector is used to connect apple mobile devices like Iphone, Ipads, Ipods to host computers, External monitors, Cameras, Usb battery chargers and other Peripherals. If your device has this you will have to purchase your own adapter.

Micro USB is used for charging devices

Mini DVI Apple connector. This is an older video port that has been phased out by apple in favor of apples Mini display port. . This port was used to transmit video but did not support Dual link connections and cannot support Resoultions higher than 1920 x 1200 @60hz. If your device has this you will have to purchase your own adapter.

Mini VGA. Apple iBook, iMacs Early PowerBooks (12 inch), and some IMacs like the iMac G5, HP, Several Sony Laptops and Asus. If your device has this you will have to purchase your own adapter.

Apple 30pin dock connector. This connector was common for most Apple mobile devices used for Charging, USB. FireWire, audio outputs and Video output. Not used after 2014

Apples Lightning connector is a replacement for apples 30 pin dock connector. Apples lightning connector is used to connect Apple mobile devices like IPhone, IPad, and IPod to host computers, external monitors, Cameras, USB battery chargers.

MHL is Mobile High-Definition Link. This is an industry standard for mobile Audio/Video interface that allows you to connect mobile devices. This type of connection give you more options that just your standard HDMI connection.

Crestron Air Media: This device can be found in the list of rooms Below. This device is used to wirelessly transmit Video images to a TV or Video projector. In order for the device to work an app has to be down loaded onto the device you want to display. This Device can also do simultaneous transmit several devices to the TV or Video projection unit. This device can be found in the following rooms.

B120, B 159, BBH 102

Apple TV is a streaming Media player that allows you to mirror images off of apple devices and also lets you stream content from the internet to the TV or Video projection Unit.

This device can be found in the following rooms.

BBH 308, BBH 347, LWH 3031, LWH 3106, LWH 4001 PE 2102

This device allows you to Share Content wireless from your device to the TV or Video projector. It also allows several devices at the same time to share content together through the Solstice pod. An app has to be downloaded onto your device for this product to work. This device can be found in the following rooms.

 

 

Microsoft Wireless display Adapter:  Allows you to show images from your device to the TV or Video projection unit.

Works with: all Mira cast enabled Windows 10 phone, Tablets and laptops including Surface line up. Not Compatible with Surface RT. Does not work with Mac. Android devices limited functionality Nexus 9, Android 4.2, Android 5.0. Does not work with Android 4.4.4, Nexus 5 Android 3.2. This device can be found in the following rooms.
