Why is this change being made?
The existing University Novell File share system is in its legacy stage, and is at its end of support life. The technology is being migrated to a secured and modernized platform as a phased component to a file share modernization.
Will I have access to my personal and departmental shared drive during this migration?
The migration will take place from Friday March 17th at 10 pm to Sunday March 19th at 11 pm. During this time, you will not have access to your files located on the Novell file share system.
What will happen after the migration process is run?
After the migration you will need to ensure that your computer equipment is connected on-site to the campus network so that the migration can complete on your machine.
If I am working remotely, can I continue to use my computer remotely to access my datashare files?
Yes. Once you have connected to the campus network on-site, and have confirmed that you have access to your files via Microsoft File Share - you will be able to continue to use your equipment at home as prescribed by your supervisor until further notice.
Will I have access to my legacy Novell file share system once the migration is complete?
As all profile and departmental shared drive data will be migrated to Microsoft file share,
you will no longer use or have access to the legacy Novell file share system.
Will our profile and departmental mapped drives path change?
Since shared folders will be migrated off from the old Novell server to the Microsoft file share servers, mapped drives path will be slightly different; however, the date in those folders will not change. If you are using desktop shortcuts Please update your mapped drives shortcuts with the new path if needed.
What will happen to my existing Novell “H-Drive” Data?
Any data in your Novell “H-drive” will automatically be migrated to your new “H-drive” (\\Prod-Home-Dir\home-root$) hosted on a Microsoft-based file share system. After the migration, your access to the old Novell “H: Home Drive” will be removed.
What will happen to my existing “G:/yellowstone.univ.neiu.edu\homefolders$” drive?
Currently mapped G: \\Yellowstone.univ.neiu.edu\homefolders$ will be replaced by H: \\Prod-Home-Dir\home-root$ with more storage capacity.
